David Killen
My grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis, 2/1 AFW. Undated photo. I believe that this was taken on his enlistment. His identical twin brother, Kevin Southwell Davis, served with him in 2/1 AFW in Tobruk.

Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW some time before August 1941. His description written on the back simply reads: "Edgar D. Neil. Died of wounds. Tobruk 5-8.41

Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW in August 1941. His description written on the back of the photo reads: "Ted (Edgar) Neil's grave in the Tobruk cemetary. He was one of our best mates and was killed with another mate by a bomb the night before he was to go our to Palestine for a spell."

David Killen
Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW in July 1941. His description written on the back of the photo reads: "Taken from my bed showing Kevin's ()my grandfather's twin brother) bed and another one hanging up from the roof. MOST OF our gear was hanging up on the pegs and was torn about by shrapnel. Where I've put the tiny ring is where we dug Ted (Edgar) Neil out, you can see the shovel there. The roof was reinforced with wire which you can see saved a lot of rocks from coming down."

Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW in July 1941. His description written on the back of the photo reads: "Taken from inside of our Barrack room in Tobruk. I'm standing between Kevin's (my grandfather's twin brother, Kevin Southwell Davis) and my bed. Can you see Yass on the steel lid. (My grandfather and his brother were from Yass, NSW) Kevin has a piece of shrapnel in his hand. Ted (Edgar) Neil was sleeping at Kevin's feet and although he wasn't badly hurt, he was killed later on with a direct hit."

David Killen
Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW in July 1941. His description written on the back of the photo reads: "This is the hole made by one of the 1,000 pounders which scored direct hits on our barracks. It shows some of the boys looking for some of their personal belongings and believe me a lot were not found."

David Killen
Taken by my grandfather, Henley Southwell Davis 2/1 AFW in July 1941. His description written on the back of the photo reads: "Taken from the Barracks yard at Tobruk. Luckily there were only 5 of us sleeping there instead of the usual 40. The boys reckon my tin hat was glued on and believe me it was. One piece of the wall weighting about 1 cwt came down between our beds onto our box containing mess gear and writing materials etc."
